Agenda:
Welcome and called to order at 1:07 by Susan Whetstone.

Old Business:
Three Sentinels Arch was disapproved because it appears as
Explorers Arch on some published maps (Stan Jones map of the Lake Powell
area). The arch appears to already be
named.
Docket 387:
a.
Andersen Hill Deferred
Have
Box Elder County and the town of Howell been contacted about the name change?
b.
Deception Arch Approved conditionally
Unanimously
approved, but check to see if Garfield County has been contacted.
c.
Obscure Arch Approved (Unanimous)
It is considered to be an arch.
d.
The Jug Disapproved (6 disapproved; 1
approved)
There
is a feature called Jug Rock 15 miles from the feature proposed as the
Jug. The Board felt the name was too
close to the feature with such a similar name.
Hikers in the area could get confused.
The Board is willing to look at a different name for the feature.
e. Mt. Superior
Is
the mountain Mt. Superior or Superior Peak.
Jim is going to get information from Alta.
Starvation Reservoir
Deferred until docketed.
The question came up about derogatory names. “Nigger” and “Jap” are the two names that are considered derogatory and will not be used
on maps.
Janet Packham was thanked for supplying photographs of The
Jug for the Board.
The next meeting will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2005 at
1:00pm in the Rio Grande Board Room.

meeting adjourned at 2:15 pm.
